HOUSTON – The drillship Jasper Explorer has sailed out of Singapore and is now heading to Republic of Guinea in northwest Africa.
Its initial well for operator Hyperdynamics, Sabu-1, should start drilling in October in around 700 m (2,296 ft) of water. The well will target a four-way anticline prospect with upper Cretaceous sands, with a probable TD of 3,600 m (11,811 ft).
"With the drillship now on its way to West Africa and the majority of the other equipment and services needed for the first two wells contracted for, we are moving closer to testing the resource potential of our shallower-water objectives through the drill bit this fall," said Ray Leonard, Hyperdynamics' president and CEO.
Hyperdynamics operates with a 77% interest, the remainder held by Dana Petroleum. AGR Petroleum Services is providing management services during the drilling phase.
