DORDRECHT, the Netherlands – Van Aalst Marine & Offshore Group is looking to extend its CargoMaxx concept to space-saving below deck installation on offshore platforms for the bulk storage of drill cuttings. Fitting CargoMaxx storage facilities will serve a faster discharge onto offshore supply vessels in a much safer way and puts an end to the hassle of manually handling and hoisting skips with drill cuttings.
CEO Wijnand van Aalst said: “CargoMaxx is a closed system with zero environmental impact that provides maximum safety for both platform and vessel personnel. The entire discharge process is basically a single and continuous flow through a hose connection between platform and ship, requiring no hands, no crane. Conventional containers typically require up to 20 physical handlings for each individual skip.”
Van Aalst has designed CargoMaxx as a modular concept that may be built into, but also retrofitted on platforms. A retrofit option is to schedule the installation as part of a major refurbishment operation in dry-dock, but may even be performed on site using the standard board crane capacity of a platform.
CargoMaxx has been successfully applied as a Multi-Application Tank system for offshore support vessels that may be used both for dry bulk and liquid cargoes. As a result, supply vessels can be loaded to their full capacity both ways, either delivering dry bulk cargo to a platform, or drill cuttings back to shore on the return trip. In addition to providing cargo flexibility, CargoMaxx reduces load and discharge times, adding to offshore supply safety and efficiency.
