STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Lundin Norway has discovered oil in the Tellus prospect in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
Oil was proven in a 50-m (164-ft) column which included a 3-m (9.8-ft) thick lower Cretaceous sandstone overlying porous, fractured basement. The oil is of the same type occurring in the nearby Luno field – Lundin believes Tellus may form a northern extension of Luno.
Well 16/1-15 was drilled in license PL 338. Two reservoir tests were performed. The first perforated in a fractured basement interval and flowed 650 b/d through a 40/64-in. choke. Lundin claims this is the first successful full-scale basement test anywhere offshore Norway.
The second test was perforated in the overlying sandstone interval, producing 3,900 b/d through a 40/64-in. choke. Results indicate good flow properties and pressure support.
A side track will be drilled to appraise the discovery in order to ensure inclusion in the Luno development program.
