MUMBAI, India – Reliance Industries reports a rich gas/condensate discovery offshore India in its first well in block CY-PR-DWN-2001/3 (CYPR-D6) in the Cauvery-Palar basin. The well is in 1,194 m (3,917 ft) water depth and was drilled to a target depth of 3,815 m (12,516 ft).

Reliance says the well encountered multiple hydrocarbon-bearing clastic reservoirs in the late Cretaceous. Modular dynamic testing and drillstem testing (DST) were used. During the DST, the well produced 37 MMcf/d of gas and 1,100 b/d of condensate through a 56/64-in choke from a zone of about 70 m ()230 ft) gross thickness.

Further appraisals are being planned.
