OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy revealed the scope of the Awards in Predefined Areas (APA) 2011 licensing round.

This rolling initiative aims to promote exploration in mature regions of the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). License awards should be issued in late 2011 / early 2012.

For APA 2011, the predefined area covers 62 blocks or parts of blocks, of which 56 are in the Norwegian Sea and six in the North Sea.

“With an efficient and tailor-made progress for the northeastern part of the Norwegian Sea, the areas near Jan Mayen, and the unopened parts of the southern Barents Sea, the government has put forward a long-term program to ensure a stable level of activity on the Norwegian continental shelf over time,” said Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe.

Applications must be submitted by midday on Sept. 14.
