GORINCHEM, the Netherlands -- GDF Suez E&P Nederland has contracted Mercon Steel Structures for a gas platform in the Dutch North Sea. Mercon’s work scope comprises construction, load out, and sea fastening of the satellite platform G16a-B. This will exploit new reserves that GDF SUEZ discovered last year in block G16, 80 km (49.7 mi) north of the Dutch island of Terschelling.

The new platform will be equipped with water separation facilities. Processed gas will be exported via a new pipeline to the G17d-AP for further treatment.

Mercon will manufacture a 1,250-metric ton (1,378-ton) topside and a 950-metric ton (1,047-ton) jacket at its yard in Gorinchem, including 580-metric ton (639-ton) piles. The platform should be installed next summer.
