Genting hits oil in Natuna Sea

Malaysia's Genting Oil and Gas Pte. Ltd. has discovered oil in the offshore Northwest Natuna field, according to Priyono, the director general for upstream commercial oil and gas development at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in Jakarta.

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Malaysia's Genting Oil and Gas Pte. Ltd. has discovered oil in the offshore Northwest Natuna field, according to Priyono, the director general for upstream commercial oil and gas development at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in Jakarta.

Exploration wells Ande Ande Lumut-2X and Ande Ande Lumut-3X flowed a combined 1,700 b/d.

Genting has also reported the Anambas-1X well flowed condensate at a rate of 488 b/d and gas at a rate of 15.6 MMcf/d, Priyono said.

Genting CEO T.S. Ong expects to put the field into production 18-24 months after the firm has conducted further studies

Genting took over operatorship of the Natuna Sea block in 2004 when Premier Oil relinquished it.
