Statoil has contracted NKr380 million in charters with two Norwegian shipowners, which cover two supply and anchor handling ships for the Snøhvit development.
A five-year contract awarded to Eidesvik Shipping relates to theViking Avant newbuild and includes two renewal options of one year each.
TheViking Avant is under construction in the mid-Norwegian Aker Langsten yard in Tomrefjord, with delivery scheduled for October.
"Viking Avant will be used initially as a supply and stand-by ship for Polar Pioneer during the drilling of wells on Snøhvit," Terje Breivik, Statoil sector manager said.
The 18-month charter for Olympic covers theOlympic Poseidonship. This vessel will provide anchor handling, support, and supply services relating to drilling on Snøhvit.
Both ships have good safety and environmental solutions. The new catalytic converters onViking Avant will reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90%.
