DELFZIJL, the NetherlandsNederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) and Shell UK have contracted Wagenborg Offshore to provide a second walk-to-work vessel for their southern North Sea gas field operations.

This will serve as a standby and support vessel for inspection and maintenance of various unmanned platforms in the Dutch and British sectors.

Wagenborg and Ulstein have agreed to deliver a standardPX121 platform supply vessel, built to the Ulstein Accommodation Standard. According to Wagenborg, this design provides a favorable combination of fuel efficiency and load capacity.

The PX121, the company adds, is particularly suited for conversion to walk-to-work or emergency response and rescue, without comprising its dynamic positioning performance.

The vessel will undergo conversion at the Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in Delfzijl. It will be equipped with an additional accommodation module, a motion-compensated gangway, and a motion-compensated crane to suit NAM/Shell’s needs.

It should be delivered to Wagenborg next March and start operations soon afterwards.
