Seadrill confirms West Alpha contract

Seadrill Ltd. says a consortium of oil companies consisting of BG Norge, Nexen, Centrica Energi, Norwegian Energy Co., and Petro-Canada Norge has signed a long-term contract for the West Alpha semisubmersible.

HAMILTON, Bermuda -- Seadrill Ltd. says a consortium of oil companies consisting of BG Norge, Nexen, Centrica Energi, Norwegian Energy Co., and Petro-Canada Norge has signed a long-term contract for the West Alpha semisubmersible.

The contract has a firm duration of three years with an option to extend the contract length to either four or five years.

Seadrill says theWest Alpha primarily will be drilling exploration wells on the Norwegian continental shelf. Operations are scheduled to begin in Feb. 2009 in direct continuation of the current contract.
