Dubai yard receives Athena floater

BW Offshore has awarded Drydocks World a $13-million conversion contract for an FPSO destined for use in Ithaca Energy’s Athena development in the UK central North Sea.

DUBAI, UAE -- BW Offshore has awarded Drydocks World a $13-million conversion contract for an FPSO destined for use in Ithaca Energy’s Athena development in the UK central North Sea.

TheBW Carmen, which has been renamed BW Athena, was built in 1994 and converted to an FPSO in 1999. The vessel arrived in Dubai recently.

Drydocks World’s scope of work includes lengthening the vessel, and fabricating and installing a new section for the submerged turret production system. All associated piping and electrical modification, module and crane installation and topside repair will be carried out at Dubai shipyard.

The yard is also handling the conversion of theBetatank II to the Firenze FPSO and the LNG Golar Frost into the FSRU Toscana, both for deployment offshore Italy.
