LONDON, UK -- Lloyd's Register and Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will provide dual classification of two newbuild shuttle tankers. The Russian partnership of Sevmorneftegaz, Sovcomfort and Admiralty Shipyards are building the 70,000dwt double-acting tankers as ice-class vessels which will provide year-round service in the Pechora Sea.

Following delivery in 2008, they will transport oil from the Prirazlomnoye field production platform to a floating and storage offloading unit moored offshore Murmansk. Prirazlomnoye should be producing up to 7.5 million metric tons of oil by 2012, with enough reserves to warrant 22 years of shuttle tanker operations.

Both vessels will comply with RS' latest requirements for double-acting ships. Lloyd's Register will verify the structural and fatigue performance of the hull structure and apply class notations for features such as dynamic positioning and the bow loading system.
