ROTTERDAM --Sea trials will start this week for Fairstar Heavy Transport's semisubmersible heavy transport ship Fjell. These will take the form initially of basin maneuvers in the shelter of Valetta, Malta, followed by a program in the open sea.
Over the course of three days all the ship's operating systems will be tested under the scrutiny of representatives from DNV. On returning to Malta, theFjell will execute a submerging test, culminating hopefully in final Class Approval from DNV. The scheduled sailaway is on May 16.
TheFjell is one of two semisubmersible heavy transport ships built for Fairstar by Malta Shipyards. The Fjord entered service last year.
