StatoilHydro secures AH vessels

StatoilHydro has issued three contracts for anchor handling vessels with a total value of NOK1.6 billion ($315 million).

STAVANGER, Norway --StatoilHydro has issued three contracts for anchor handling vessels with a total value of NOK1.6 billion ($315 million).

The largest is a five-year award to DOF for a new Skandi TBN AH 04 CD vessel developed by Aker Yards, due to start work for StatoilHydro early in 2010. The vessel will be 108-m (354-ft) long and 24-m (78.7-ft) wide, with a 500-metric ton (551-ton) winch, and an onboard ROV.

Features designed to improve safety on deck during anchor handling will include cargo/rail manipulators to reduce requirements for manual work. The vessel also has hybrid engine solutions and catalytic converters to limit emissions of nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide.

Under the other two (18-month) contracts, DOF will supply theSkandi Admiral from mid-August, while Island Offshore will provide the Island Vanguard. This vessel, which is equipped with an ROV and A-frame, should start service early next month after completing a spot assignment.
