HOUSTON – Pride International Inc. has dedicated and accepted delivery of the Deep Ocean Mendocino drillship from Samsung Heavy Industries Ltd. The drillship is expected to mobilize to the Gulf of Mexico for a five-year contract with Petroleo Brasileiro.

In addition to being designed with parallel features intended to reduce drilling time for wells in up to 12,000 ft (3,658 m) of water, the Mendocino has DPS-3 certification, a 6,000-bbl active fluid storage and handling system, significant storage and deck space and accommodations for up to 200 personnel.

Mendocino is the third of five deepwater drillships in Pride’s expansion program. The fourth vessel, DeepOcean Molokai, is scheduled for construction completion in December 2011. Delivery of the fifth ship is expected in mid-2013.
