KONGSBERG, NorwayBureau Veritas (BV) has given approval in principle to Kongsberg Maritime’s Dynamic Positioning Digital Survey (DPDS) application.

Since successful pilot trials last year with BOURBON Offshore, BV and Kongsberg Maritime have been assessing the results.

Now BV has decided to permit vessel owners and operators to perform DP Annual trials using the DPDS application.

According to Kongsberg Maritime, the application digitizes all data drawn from the DP Annual tests (in accordance with IMO MSC Circ 1580 guidelines and IMCA M 190), to verify the performance and redundancy of the vessel’s DP system.

This can include the power, thruster, and DP control systems.

KM DPDS is said to provide access to data acquired directly from the DP system. On completion of trials the data is transferred to class surveyors via Kongsberg’s cloud infrastructure.

The surveyor can then re-play the DP Annual trial program onshore. Surveys can be conducted at any time from any location, the company added, once the data has been uploaded to the KM cloud.

Vessel owners can use the digital survey tool to put together and present evidence that required test procedures have taken place.
