Petronas wins shallow-water oil and gas block offshore Mexico

Malaysia's Petronas has been awarded a shallow-water oil and gas exploration block offshore Mexico.

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian state energy company Petronas says it has been awarded a shallow-water oil and gas exploration block offshore Mexico, according to a Reuters report.

Petronas was awarded block 6 in the Gulf of Mexico’s Salina basin, which it will jointly operate with Colombian national oil company Ecopetrol.

Last year, Petronas was awardedtwo deepwater blocks in separate joint venture partnerships participating in Mexico’s first auction of deepwater exploration areas.

Petronas says it will set up a new office in Mexico City that will start operations in the third quarter.
