RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Petrobras began an extended well test (EWT) of the Guará area, in the pre-salt layer of Santos Basin, on December 25.

The EWT should last five months and its daily production is expected at 14,000 b/d of oil. It is producing through well SPS-55, using the FDSPO Dynamic Producer platform.

The Guará area is located in block BM-S-9, about 300 km off the coast of São Paulo state. Petrobras operates the area in partnership with BG Group and Repsol. Recoverable oil and gas volumes in Guará are estimated at 1.1 and 2 Bboe of high quality, at about 30-degree API gravity.

Following the EWT, a pilot project will take place at Guara field, with wells being conneceted to the FPSO Cidade de São Paulo. Production is expect to start by 2013 and is estimated at 120,000 bbl of oil, and 5 MM cu m of gas per day.

The Guará EWT will provide Petrobras and its partners with deeper knowledge of the area and its behavior, thereby helping to develop a definitive plan for the region and for the Santos Basin pre-salt layer.
