BOEM issues Final Notice on June 20 GoM lease sale

The Final Notice of Sale for the June 20, 2012, Central Gulf of Mexico lease sale includes 7,276 blocks and 38.6 million acres.

NEW ORLEANS –The Final Notice of Sale for the June 20, 2012, Central Gulf of Mexico lease sale includes 7,276 blocks and 38.6 million acres.

The blocks are located from 3 to about 230 mi (5 to 370 km) offshore, in water depths ranging from 9 to more than 11,115 ft. (3 to 3,400 m) in the Central Gulf of Mexico, a region the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management estimates contains close to 31 Bbbl of oil and 134 tcf of natural gas that are currently undiscovered and technically recoverable.

BOEM has also increased the minimum bid in deepwater to $100 per acre, up from $37.50. BOEM also has adopted a stipulation to notify bidders that the terms stated in a Feb. 20, 2012, agreement with Mexico regarding the exploration and development of oil and natural gas reservoirs along the United States’ and Mexico’s maritime boundary may apply to some of the blocks offered in this sale, should the agreement enter into force.
