Marathon has selected APL's submerged turret production (STP) system to provide the turret mooring for its proposedAlvheim FPSO in the Norwegian North Sea. APL has a letter of intent to supply its system for permanent mooring of the MST Odin over the field's 25-year life. This arrangement is subject in part to Norwegian government approval of the Alvheim development plan.

Once converted to an FPSO, theOdin will be moored in 125 m of water with 14 slots through the STP's turret to accommodate risers and umbilicals for subsea wells. The vessel, which will have storage capacity for 560,000 bbl of oil, will be moored in a passive mode. The mooring system will be designed to withstand 100-year storm conditions with a 14.6 m significant wave height.
