Offshore steel structures have long been difficult and expensive to maintain against corrosion. Traditionally, three-coat anti-corrosive coating systems have been used for maintenance of offshore structures in the oil & gas industry. However, these systems often show signs of early failure, leaving asset owners with even higher maintenance requirements. This article analyses the performance of a new two-coat solution designed to overcome this problem. Combining Hempatop Repel 800, the market’s first volumetric water-repellent topcoat, with Avantguard 770, an activated zinc epoxy primer, the system demonstrates improved anti-corrosion performance, and significantly extends maintenance intervals and reduces costs for asset owners.
