Eni Australia with joint venture partners Tap Oil Ltd., and Mobil Australia Resources Co. has spudded the Scalybutt-1 step out well in the Carnarvon basin off Western Australia. The well is in WA-25-L, 1.6 km west of the Woollybutt-2A, ST1 production well.
The Scalybutt-1 well has confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in the western flank of the producing Woollybutt oil field. The partners took an 18-m core from the reservoir to provide information on the characteristics of the oil column.
As planned, the JV is drilling the Scalybutt-1 well to total depth before conducting a wireline logging program.
The partners will drill secondary targets for the Scalybutt-1 well in the Lower Barrow at a later date. The Woollybutt-3 well, 5 km south of the Woollybutt oil field, intersected a 5.5-m oil column in Lower Barrow Sands.
The partners are encouraged by the preliminary results of the Scalybutt well. The results from the well may also lead to higher potential in the Woollybutt-3 structure. The Woollybutt-3 well previously discovered an 8.3-m oil column in Upper Barrow Sands in addition to oil in the Lower Barrow referred to above.
Eni Australia operates the Scalybutt-1 step out well with 65%, Mobil Australia Resources Co. Pty Ltd. 20%, and Tap Oil Ltd. 15%.
