Offshore Technology Conference 2003 will bring offshore oil and gas leaders from around the world to "Envision, Enable and Enact" May 5-8 at Houston's Reliant Center. "Unique ideas start with this theme," said Charlie Richards, OTC 2003 chairman, who spoke at the OTC 2003 press conference on March 25 at the Warwick Hotel.
Matt Simmons, who will make two presentations and served on the OTC press conference panel, predicted a unique OTC 2003, which will be held during the war in Iraq and the most challenging time in the history of the conference. "We will be meeting at a time when supplies have never been lower, the North Sea has peaked, and Russian supplies are very shaky," said Simmons. Despite the war in Iraq, attendance is expected to meet predictions of 45,000.
Richards also noted unique events at this year's conference. All OTC participants are invited to OTC Night with the Houston Astros, on Tuesday, May 6. This event will include discounted ticket prices and special pre-game recognition of OTC participants.
And Thursday's student tour will include a group of handicapped students. "This is something I've been pushing for a few years," said Richards. "These students have a lot to contribute to our industry. The offshore industry seems to be an aging one and we need young people to move into our industry."
As for OTC 2004, Richards said that a spotlight on new technology will be a highlight of next year's conference.
