DUBLIN, Ireland --Ireland's energy ministry has opened more acreage for exploration in the Porcupine Basin, under the country's latest licensing round.

The areas offered extend over 63,500 sq km (24,517 sq mi) in deep waters off western Ireland. Applicants may bid for up to three blocks in the north of the Porcupine Basin, and up to six in the south. Bids are due in by December 18.
