OSLO, NorwayPGS, in partnership with PetroCi and Direction Générale des Hydrocarbures, has completed phase two of the offshore Côte d’Ivoire MegaSurvey.

The campaign added 9,897 sq km (3,821 sq mi) of 3D and 24,632 km (15,305 mi) of 2D seismic over the western Tano basin, from the shelf to deepwater. It covers the recently spudded exploration wells Baleine-1X and Obunu-1X, operated respectively by Eni and TotalEnergies.

The MegaSurvey is also along-strike to Eni’s Eban-1X near-field discovery, which reportedly found light oil in an 80-m (262-ft) thick section of Cenomanian sandstones.

PGS matched, merged, and re-binned data from phases 1 and 2 onto a common grid to form a continuous 32,310-sq km (12,475-sq mi) volume of full-stack data in the time domain.

Coverage has also revealed various Upper Cretaceous turbidite channel and fan systems in the eastern deepwater area.

The basin-wide understanding provided by the seismic data, the company added, should allow reliable regional depositional models to be constructed spatially and temporally through geological time, assisting identification of optimum potential targets for future exploration.

PGS’ 3D data along the margin covers discoveries, farm-in opportunities, and open blocks available for licensing.
