MOSCOW -- Lukoil and Vanco International have won a tender to explore and develop the Est Rapsodia and Trident blocks in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.

Both blocks are in water depths ranging from 90-1,000 m (295-3,281 ft), and 60-100 km (37-62 mi) offshore, the nearest coastal town being Sulina.

The total area covered by the two permits is around 2,000 sq km (772 sq mi). The work program includes a 3D seismic study to assess the blocks’ geology.

Lukoil Overseas will sign a concession agreement with Romania’s National Agency for Mineral Resources of Romania within the next six months, and will establish an office in Romania to operate the project.
