Statoil, Hydro resume exploration

Norway's Petroleum Directorate has granted Statoil and Hydro two new drilling permits.

OSLO, Norway --Norway's Petroleum Directorate has granted Statoil and Hydro two new drilling permits.

Statoil has clearance for an appraisal well in block 16/2 in the Norwegian North Sea. Well 16/2-4 will be drilled around 30 km (18.65 mi) east of the 15/3-1 (Gudrun discovery), and will be the third well on production license 265, awarded in 2001.

Hydro will drill wildcat well 6609/6-1 in production license 286 in the Norwegian Sea, using the semisubmersiblePolar Pioneer. The well is around 100 km (62.14 mi) northwest of the Norne field. This will be second well on this license, which was awarded under Norway's 17th licensing round in 2002.
