HOUSTON -- Northern Offshore has had to interrupt a five-well drilling program for VietGazprom offshore Vietnam.

After completing the third well, Northern’s drillship Energy Searcher underwent an inspection. This identified the need for repairs to the ship's hull before it could resume drilling operations.

The company intends to move the rig to Singapore for the repairs. Downtime for the rig could be at least six to eight weeks, including the journey to and from the yard. Northern will submit cost estimates once the final scope of work has been defined.

While the rig is in transit to Singapore and under repair, the VietGazprom contract continues at a zero dayrate. Once repairs have been completed, the rig should to return to Vietnam to fulfil its contracted program.
