LONDON -- Serica Energy has P&A’d the Dambus-1 exploration well in the Kutai PSC offshore Indonesia. The well encountered hydrocarbons, but not in commercial volumes.

The well was drilled to investigate a stacked sequence of Miocene reservoir sands. Initially the well was deviated to a TD of 3,225 m (10,580 ft), with hydrocarbons in the gross interval 2,070-2,110 m (6,791-6,922 ft), and indications of further hydrocarbons below 2,760 m (9,055 ft).

A sidetrack (Dambus-1ST) was then drilled to TD of 2,800 m (9,186 ft). Partner Salamander Energy says high-quality gas-bearing sands were logged in the interval 2,025-2,045 m (6,643-6,709 ft), along with oil shows. Pressures were evaluated but the final assessment declared the find to be sub-commercial.

The Trident drilling rig now will transfer to drill the Marindan exploration prospect at the southern end of the Kutai PSC.

Salamander’s CEO James Menzies said: “The Dambus results have no impact on the rest of the program in this basin…In the meantime our Angklung well in the north of the basin continues to drill on schedule.”
