ADELAIDE, Australia -- Operator Origin Energy is running wireline logs in the Rockhopper 1 well in exploration permit T/18P in the Bass basin, offshore Tasmania.

Wireline pressure data confirms the presence of multiple hydrocarbon columns in a sequence of interbedded sands and shales in the Lower Eastern View Coal Measures, the company says. Selective wireline sampling has recovered oil from some sands and liquids-rich gas from others. Sand bed thickness is 1 m to 5 m (3 ft to 16 ft) and reservoir quality is variable.

As no definitive water bearing sands are present in the target section, the Joint Venture is considering drilling a sidetrack to a downflank location on the Rockhopper structure to establish hydrocarbon column heights.
