Petrobras to drill new well in Santos basin pre-salt

The National Petroleum Agency (ANP) has granted Petrobras authorization to drill a well in the northern area of the Santos basin´s pre-salt, outside the boundaries of previously bid on blocks.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- The National Petroleum Agency (ANP) has granted Petrobras authorization to drill a well in the northern area of the Santos basin´s pre-salt, outside the boundaries of previously bid on blocks.

The drilling operation will gather information about the region, which has yet to be assessed. Drilling is expected to reach a depth of 6,425 m (21,079 ft) using the drilling rig SS-53. Results will be delivered to the ANP and will be released to the public.

Petrobras will be in charge of the operation and bear all drilling costs. The company intends to develop the area following the signing of a transfer agreement.
