Jackup Ensco-107 spuds Taranaki basin well

The jackup Ensco-107 has spudded the Albacore-1 exploration well in the Taranaki basin, according operator Westech.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- The jackup Ensco-107 has spudded the Albacore-1 exploration well in the Taranaki basin, according operator Westech.

The company has drilled the well to a depth of 419 m (1,375 ft) MDRT and cemented a 20-in. (51-cm) casing. Albacore-1 is expected to reach a total depth of 2,200 m (7,218 ft) over the 20-day drilling operation.

The well will examine several structural features defined by recent 3D seismic data including a Pliocene Fan, two Mangaa sands, and underlying Volcaniclastics.
