HOUSTON – An appraisal well on the Maureen structure in the UK central North Sea has been plugged and abandoned, according to partner Endeavour International.

Endeavour and Challenger Minerals only recently agreed to farm in to the well in block 16/29-a, operated by Fairfield Energy.

The well, drilled by the semisub Sedco 704 to TD of 9,281 ft (2,829 m), targeted an untested fault block in the abandoned Maureen field, previously produced by Phillips Petroleum. It did not encounter commercial quantities of hydrocarbons. Fairfield has been looking at a re-development of Maureen via a subsea tieback to a nearby platform.
