Group re-enters Brugdan well offshore Faroes
Drilling operations have resumed on Statoil’s Brugdan II exploration well off the Faroe Islands that had been suspended since November 2012.
According to partner Atlantic, the semisubmersibleWest Hercules is re-entering well 6104/21-2 Brugdan II in 460 m (1,509 ft) of water in Faroese license 006.
Brugdan is a large four-way dip closure atTertiary level that was drilled in 2006 by the 6104/21-1 well. This was abandoned prior to reaching the Vaila sandstone target owing to mechanical issues.
The current well is expected to take more than two months to complete.
Atlantic CEO Ben Araboa said: “Although the well is both geologically and technically challenging, it could, if successful, have a very big impact on Atlantic Petroleum and on the Faroese shelf in general.”
Other partners are ExxonMobil and OMV.
