NPD approves two more drilling programs offshore Norway

OSLO, Norway – Statoil has authorization for a wildcat well in a previously undrilled area of the Norwegian Barents Sea.

TheNorwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has sanctioned use of the semisubmersible Transocean Spitsbergen to drill well 7324/2-1 on production license 615, awarded in 2011 under Norway’s 21st licensing round. It comprises parts of blocks 7324/1, 2, 3, and 7325/1.

NPD has additionally sanctioned Lundin’s planned appraisal well on PL 359 in the centralNorwegian North Sea, using the semisub Bredford Dolphin.

This license takes in the southwestern part of block 16/1 and the northern half of block 16/4. The well will be drilled 3.9 km (2.4 mi) southwest of well 16/4-6 S.
