Rig stabilized following yard stay incident

BERGEN, Norway –Odfjell Drilling says a leak at the drilling rig Island Innovator was plugged last Friday morning and heeling of the rig reduced.

The incident occurred while the rig was undergoing finalization and operational preparations at the Hanøytangen yard outside Bergen.

The leakage occurred through a seawater inlet to a pump room in a pontoon in the rig’s substructure. At the time 100 personnel were on board – one was slightly injured while 63 other were evacuated.

Odfjell added that the rig has since been stabilized by its ballasting system, and further work was continuing to secure and normalize the situation.
