USLAN, South Korea – DNV has contracted with Hyundai Heavy Industries to class a semisubmersible according to Integrated Software Dependent Systems on a Diamond Offshore Drilling rig.

This marks the first-ever ISDS project by DNV for a US owner. Previously DNV had contracted withNorwegian clients for the ISDS review.

The objective of ISDS is to ensure that software and integration problems are detected and resolved early in the design stage, rather than during commissioning and acceptance testing, says DNV.

Instead of a focus on the final review of documents and installations, ISDS emphasises a review of the working methods and processes that lead to the delivery of complex products, such as software, where complete verification of the final product is nearly impossible.
