Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol) launched its new Houston-based corporate headquarters. The company says that the sheer size of the new facility demonstrates the expanding role that Sonangol USA will play in fostering increased strategic alliances between Angolan and US oil interests.

Network of Excellence in Training LLC (NexT) and Subsurface Consultants and Associates LLC (SCA) is forming a global alliance in education: The Upstream Institute. The training program will offer custom-designed programs to address geoscience and engineering challenges of geographic regions around the world. Classes will be offered in Houston, New Orleans, and Calgary.

ABB, a power and automation technology group, has streamlined its divisions to strengthen its customer focus. The former Power Technology Products and Utilities divisions have been merged to form Power Technologies, under the leadership of Peter Smits. The Automation Technology Products and Industries divisions have been merged to form Automation Technologies under the leadership of Dinesh Paliwal.

Contracts

Fugro Chance Inc. has been contracted by Horizon Offshore to position a proposed pipeline for Newfield Exploration Co. at High Island block A-355 in the Gulf of Mexico.

Schlumberger Information Solutions has agreed in principle to acquire the software and services business of Technoguide AS, developer of the Petrel workflow tools.

Stolt Offshore won a $60-million contract for subsea equipment and services relating to Norsk Hydro's Vigdis Extension project.

Woodside Energy Ltd. has signed an agreement with China National Offshore Oil Corp. to parti-cipate in the North West Shelf Venture off Australia.

Global Industries SAS Gouda BV from the Netherlands has a new contract that includes the upgrade of the existing pipe handling system onboard the derrick/lay barge Iroquis.

Global Industries has signed a contract with Ocean Energy Inc. to install two 16-mi flowlines from a platform in the Gulf of Mexico's South Pass block 89 in 420 ft of water to a subsea well in Mississippi Canyon block 496 in 1,850 ft of water.

Williams Oil Gathering LLC awarded a contract to Horizon Offshore Contractors Inc. to install 49.96 mi of 20-in. oil pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico for the Mountaineer shallow water pipeline system, a part of the Devils Tower Project being constructed by Williams.

Rowan Co. Inc. contracted its Super Gorilla class jackup Rowan Gorilla VII to Tuscan Energy Ltd. for a simultaneous drilling and production program in the Ardmore field in the UK sector of the central North Sea.

McDermott Caspian Contractors Inc. signed contracts with the Azerbaijan International Operating Co. Baku for the fabrication of integrated topside decks for Phase 2 of the development of the Azeri, Chirag, and deepwater portion of the Gunashli field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, and the installation of a 28-in. gas trunk line from the Azeri field to the Sangachal terminal.

USA, a strategic alliance between Bollinger Shipyards Inc. and Incat Australia Pty. Ltd.; Ben Bordelon to excutive vice-pres-ident, repair; Cathy Green to vice president, CFO, and treasurer; Craig P. Roussel, vice-president, corporate operations, to additional responsibility for environmental affairs and compliance as well as the International Standards of Operations department; and Doug Taylor to vice-president, human resources.

David J. O'Reilly, chairman and CEO of ChevronTexaco Corp., has been elected chairman of the board of the American Petroleum Institute. Claiborne P. Deming, president and CEO of Murphy Oil Corp., has been elected API's treasurer. Both are effective Jan. 1, 2003.

ChevronTexaco appointed Patricia E. Yarrington as vice president, public and government affairs. Yarrington previously served as vice president, strategic planning.

Knut Øversjøen joins Petroleum Geo-Services ASA as CFO. Sverre Strandenes is appointed senior vice president corporate communications and will report to the CEO and be a member of the PGS executive committee.

Anthony W. Marino has been named senior vice president and general manager, Canadian operations, for Dominion Exploration and Production Inc. Marino, previously served Dominion as E&P's vice president-engineering.

BJ Services Co. appointed Andy Elliott country operations manager-Indonesia for BJ Tubular Services. Elliott is responsible for BJ Tubular Services' operations in Indonesia. Previously, he was employed by Premier Oilfield Services of Aberdeen as manager of the company's base in Great Yarmouth, England, and continental Europe manager in Holland.
