Dragon contracts platforms for Cheleken fields

Dragon Oil has awarded construction contracts for two new production platforms in its Cheleken Contract Area in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

ASHKABAD, Turkmenistan -- Dragon Oil has awarded construction contracts for two new production platforms in its Cheleken Contract Area in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

Caspian Energy Projects LLC will build the Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) A platform, which will be installed in the Zhdanov field. It has been engineered to support both a land rig and jackup rig. Dragon will have the capacity to drill up to eight wells from this platform, which is due to be completed early in 2012.

Construction of the Dzheitune (Lam) C platform, which will be placed on the Lam field, was awarded to ILK Insaat Taah, San. Ve.tic Ltd. This platform, which will support a jackup rig, will be able to accommodate up to eight wells. It should be delivered late in 2011.

Dragon anticipates spending around $ 250 million this year and $600-700 million during 2010-12 on infrastructure projects, including the outlay for the two new platforms.
