RUGBY, UK -- Converteam is to supply electrical equipment to STX Offshore and Shipbuilding (South Korea) for the Noble Globetrotter II ultra-deepwater drillship.
The dynamically positioned vessel is under construction at STX’s new yard in Dalian, China, and should be ready for service during the second half of 2013.
It will be rated for operations in water depths of up to 10,000 ft (3,048 m), and capable of drilling to a vertical depth of 40,000 ft (12,192 m).
Converteam’s scope comprises an integrated, package of electrical works which includes major components of the electrical power generation, power distribution, and propulsion systems.
It will also supply a vessel management system incorporating power management, machinery monitoring and control, a dynamic position (DP) control system, and fire and gas and emergency shutdown systems.
Noble’s first Globetrotter class drillship, Noble Globetrotter, which also features Converteam equipment, is due to be delivered by STX in the second half of 2011. Both vessels are contracted to work for Shell under 10-year charters.
