NORWICH, UK – Subsea engineering group Acteon has agreed to acquire Houston-based Benthic, a specialist in offshore marine geotechnical and geophysical surveys.

Benthic will adddeepwater and ultra-deepwater surveying to Acteon’s capabilities through its portable remotely-operated drill (PROD) technology.

The newest PROD system can be used to perform in situ penetration testing and collect samples and cores in harsh conditions, including seabed slopes greater than 20° and water depths beyond 3,000 m (9,842 ft).

Benthic has conducted geotechnical site investigations and geophysical surveys in all the world’s deepwater basins, the most recent campaign being offshore South America in water depths of more than 2,100 m (6,890 ft).

Acteon has plans to expand the company’s services into offshore wind and scientific research.
