EDINBURGH, UK– The Woodside Energy-led joint venture has asked Senegal’s government to extend the license area covering the offshore FAN and SNE North/Spica exploration areas, in order to conduct further evaluation.
Partner Cairn Energy added that the partners plan a 3D high bandwidth seismic survey over the area of thedeepwater SNE oil field development during 2Q/3Q 2019.
This should improve reservoir definition to support development well placement.
Offshore Mauritania to the north, Cairn has an option agreement with Total to farm into 30% ofblock C7, where the present focus of exploration is a turbidite fan play.
By mid-year, interpretation should have finished of last year’s 7,000-sq km (2,703-sq mi) seismic survey over the block, with a decision on drilling to follow thereafter.
Across the Atlantic, Cairn secured an exploration agreement last year for what it claims is the largest block offshoreSuriname.
This spans an area of around 13,000 sq km (5,019 sq mi) in the Demerara plateau in the Guyana-Suriname basin which has a conjugate margin to the SNE field.
A 4,150-km (2,578-mi) 2D survey over the block is currently 85% complete with the remainder due to be acquired by mid-year. Data processing will then follow for the remainder of this year.
