HARTLEPOOL, UK – Subsea 7 has contracted the Liberty pipe mills in northeast England to manufacture 12,000 metric tons (13,228 tons) of 24-in. steel pipe for further development of Shell’s Shearwater gas field and surrounding area in the UK central North Sea.

The ShellShearwater FGL Re-Plumb project is designed to channel gas to the Fulmar gas line via the recently installed Catcher pipeline end manifold (PLEM) for delivery to the St. Fergus terminal on the eastern Scottish coast.

Gas is currently transported from the Shearwater C well to the Bacton onshore processing terminal in Norfolk via the SEAL pipeline.

Coated pipe from Hartlepool will be shipped to the Shawcor concrete coating plant in Leith, Scotland, where it will undergo further processing before being transported to the project location.

Liberty, part of Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Alliance, acquired and re-launched the mills in late 2017.

The mills are also supplying pipes to Subsea 7 for Equinor’s Snorre Expansion Project in the Norwegian North Sea.
