YORK, UKC-Kore Systems has deployed its Cable Monitor subsea testing units in the UK central North Sea to monitor the installation of a new umbilical at Shell’s Nelson field.

The devices provided constant monitoring of the umbilical’s condition and data logging during the full installation process, from load-out to laying.

This provided assurance that the cable was installed on the seabed without damage. C-Kore claimed that automating the entire process saved Shell time and money.

Cable Monitor units typically test electrical lines for insulation resistance and continuity measurement. The company’s new Subsea TDR units are also said to localize and categorize any discovered faults.
