SYDNEY – Calima Energy will operate a Petroleum Agreement for offshore Block 2813B in Namibia’s Orange River basin, following a successful application to the country’s government.

The block covers an area of 5,344 sq km (2,063 sq mi): other partners are Trago Energy, Harmattan Energy, and state oil company NAMCOR.

During the four-year initial term Calima will acquire 2D or 3D seismic data and undertake a detailed review of prospectivity.

Over the past six months ExxonMobil, Total, ONGC, Africa Energy Corp and BW Offshore have all farmed-in to projects offshore Namibia, the company points out, with at least four deepwater wells set to be drilled in the next 12 months.

Total farmed into acreage south of block 2813B last October, while Shell will reportedly drill two wells in acreage to the southeast.
