OSLO, Norway – Total (Paris: FP FP) has discovered oil in the Garantiana structure in the Norwegian North Sea.

Well 34/6-2S was drilled to 4,050 m (13,287 ft) TVD in the Triassic Lunde formation. It penetrated an oil-bearing Cook formation with good reservoir characteristics – no oil/water contact was encountered.

Oil flowed at about 4,000 b/d through a 28/64-in. choke. According to partner Bridge Energy, a side track may be drilled to define the down flank oil/water contact.

Total is operator with a 40% interest, the remainder shared between Bridge,Det norske oljeselskap, and Svenska Petroleum Exploration.

Tom Reynolds, Bridge CEO, said: “This is a license [PL554] which Bridge applied for as operator in the Norwegian 2009 APA licensing round and developed into very attractive acreage before the farm-down and transfer of operatorship to Total in 2011.”
