Dual compact flotation unit delivers big gains in oil removal efficiency

Schlumberger's EPCON division in Porsgrunn, Norway, has redesigned its compact flotation unit (CFU) technology. The resultant EPCON Dual CFU, the company claims, offers major improvements in separation and treatment of produced water on fixed and floating installations. The original EPCON team began working on the CFU concept in the late 1990s, with the first offshore installation completed on a Norsk Hydro's Troll C platform in the Norwegian sector in 2001.

Floating production deployment spend to total $81 billion from 2015-2019

Douglas-Westwood's "World Floating Production Market Forecast 2015-2019" predicts that despite the current low oil price environment, between 2015 and 2019 $81 billion will be spent on FPS units – an increase of 73% compared to 2010-2014.

PSA to probe Knarr vessel fire offshore Norway

Petroleum Safety Authority will investigate yesterday’s fire on the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO serving the Knarr field in the North Sea.

A spokesperson for Norway's Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Stavanger confirmed to Offshore  that a “minor fire” broke out on the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO, currently at work in the Knarr field in the Norwegian North Sea.
