Cadeler has agreed to acquire the newly built Boqiang 3060 jackup wind turbine installation vessel from Shanghai Boqiang Heavy Industry Group Co.

Cadeler has agreed to acquire the newly built Boqiang 3060 jackup wind turbine installation vessel from Shanghai Boqiang Heavy Industry Group Co.

The vessel, completed last year, will be renamed Wind Keeper and will provide offshore and maintenance services to offshore wind farms.

Its equipment includes a Huisman-fabricated main crane with a 2,200-t lifting capacity, a Kongsberg DP2 system, MAN-supplied engines and a Siemens propulsion system. Its 120-m long jackup legs should allow the vessel to work at the most challenging offshore locations, Cadeler added.

The company expects to take delivery of Wind Keeper this summer, and it will invest in certain upgrades to improve its operational capacity and align its service offering with Cadeler’s existing fleet.

Following the upgrades, it will be capable of supporting new installations in the 15-MW size range.

“We scrutinized every available asset, and the Wind Keeper was the clear standout as the only vessel with the technical capabilities and quality of construction necessary to be adequately future-proofed," Cadeler CEO Mikkel Gleerup said. “She is on the water already and so will generate value and revenue much sooner than a newbuilding.”
