High-capacity offshore communications network operator Tampnet is teaming up with real-time domain awareness specialist Starboard Maritime Intelligence.

They are forming a partnership offering improved protection of subsea cables and offshore energy facilities through Tampnet's fiber-optic sensing capabilities and Starboard's AI-driven intelligence service.

Real-time integration of Tampnet's Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and State of Polarization (SoP) data into Starboard's platform is intended to deliver real-time detection of and response to emerging threats.

"Our industry is shifting from monitoring to proactive protection," said Trent Fulcher, CEO of Starboard.

The partnership will develop a live, interactive threat map that will merge ship position data with subsea sensor feeds. The focus of the joint R&D will be on optimizing DAS and SoP interpretation to strengthen early detection of both accidental and intentional threats.

Technology trials and results from the partnership will be issued later this year.

Offshore network connectivity

Tampnet also reported on its LinkedIn today that it has equipped Vår Energi's Jotun FPSO with a private 4G/5G network and edge compute system. Tampnet claims this is the first FPSO globally with this level of digital infrastructure. This project aims to supports Vår Energi's Digital Field Worker program to improve offshore connectivity.
