Bids in for latest offshore Norway lease round

Twenty-five companies, all active on the Norwegian shelf, have submitted bids for licenses under Norway’s Awards in Predefined Areas (APA) 2023 round.

OSLO, Norway  Twenty-five companies, all active on the Norwegian shelf, have submitted bids for licenses under Norway’s Awards in Predefined Areas (APA) 2023 round.

The area offered this year, first announced on May 10, was expanded in the North Sea and the Barents Sea. Award winners should be announced at the start of 2024.

"It's gratifying to note the continuing significant interest in investigating new exploration acreage among almost all active companies on the Norwegian Contintental Shelf, and that we see an increased interest in the Barents Sea this year," said Kalmar Ildstad, director license management in the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

The NPD is now making a start on reviewing the applications, with a focus on geological understanding and companies’ plans for exploring the areas.

The full list of applicants includes A/S Norske Shell, Aker BP, Concedo, ConocoPhillips Skandinavia, DNO Norge, Equinor Energy, Harbour Energy Norge, INPEX Idemitsu Norge, KUFPEC Norway, Lime Petroleum, Longboat JAPEX Norge, M Vest Energy, Neptune Energy Norge, OKEA, OMV (Norge), Pandion Energy, Petrolia NOCO, PGNiG Upstream Norway, Repsol Norge, Source Energy, Sval Energi, TotalEnergies EP Norge, Vår Energi, Wellesley Petroleum, and Wintershall Dea Norge.
